Mezzo-soprano, Melanie Nicol from Langley, B.C., graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Manitoba, where she studied with Tracy Dahl. Her operatic roles at the University of Manitoba included Marchesa di Melibea from Rossini's ll Viaggio a Reims, Hermia from Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Carmen in the Opera Scenes Performances and Marcellina in the U of M Opera Theatre's production of Le Nozze Di Figaro. She toured with the U of M Opera Theatre School tour where she performed Frau Viemann/Witch/Wolf in the Brother's Grimm and the Witch/Mother in Hansel and Gretel. Melanie also played the role of Nancy in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring with Opera Nuova in Edmonton. Melanie has locally been seen singing with the PGSO in the Mozart 1791 concert. As well, she has sung the role of Ruggero in Handel's Alcina at AEDO in Lucca Tuscany.
Singer, saxophone player, and choral enthusiast, Elizabeth Morris hails from small town Fenelon Falls, Ontario. She graduated from Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Music in Saxophone, performance and composition, LU-O-Orillia with a Bachelor of Education in primary and junior grades, and recently completed the BC Choral Federation's Choral Directorship Course. Her teaching experience includes working with Chinese and international students at Dalian Maple Leaf International School in Dalian, China, and teaching music at Ecole Lac Des Bois to kindergarten and grade 1 students. While in China, she was the musical director of three fabulous plays: Grease, Mamma Mia, and Footloose. At Lac De Bois, she was assistant choral director to Mme. Susan Phillips. She is extremely excited to be developing her conducting skills with Bel Canto choirs and is looking forward to the amazing performances this season.
Maureen studied in Victoria with Edward Parker earning both A.R.C.T. and L.T.C.L. diplomas. She graduated with a B.Mus. from the University of Bictoria. Maureen accompanies and works with Bel Canto's Prince George Youth Choir and the Northern Boices Choir. She regularly accompanies other local choirs, vocal and instrumental performance in Prince George. She has performed with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra as both a soloist and ensemble player and has been involved in several local musical theatre productions. Maureen teaches privately at Classic touch Piano Studios and has been accompanying Bel Canto Choirs since 1994.
Peter Stevenson brings a wide range of experience in choral, instrumental, theatrical and vocal accompaniment to the Bel Canto Choirs. He studied with Joe Galyon at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and has performed as a soloist with the Earlham College Orchestra. Peter now plays piano professionally for special events, arranges music and performs with the Transfiguration Good News Band. During the day he works as a piano technician.
